The Mystery of The Whale Carcass

On Monday, June 29, 2020 a magnificent whale was found by locals on the shores of Mandarmani, a famous tourist spot150 km away from Kolkata  in West Bengal . They were very excited but soon became disheartened as it was dead .It weighed around 5000 kg  and is said to be a female. This whale is believed to be belonging to the  Balaenopetra genus but it's species is yet to be identified.  The body  was  having certain wounds that look like  metallic  cuts most likely due to human interference. In order to get more accurate data the DNA of the whale is sent to the laboratories. Earthquakes in Delhi

Delhi , India's capital which is also an Union territory, is a huge fast growing metropolitan city of the country, sharing boundaries with Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. This region feature as a major tectonic boundary in geophysical literature. On an intrinsic study we find out that Delhi is placed at the interface of old metamorphic rocks belt and the young alluvial sediments deposited in response to collision and weathering activities. During the last few months a lot of tectonic activity has been observed in this region. The latest tremor was on Friday,29th May .  Two seismic events followed one after another, both the earthquakes were of medium intensity. The first was felt on 9:08pm IST having its epicentre at Rohtak in Haryana. According to the National Centre of Seismology the magnitude of the earthquake measured was 4.6 in the Richter scale and its depth was recorded at 5 kilometres. Cyclone Amphan

Cyclone Amphan which was a  super cyclonic storm developed in a low pressure area about 300 kilometres east of Colombo, Sri Lanka . Within four days of its formation it intensified into an extreme severe cyclonic storm. As the  cyclone neared the eastern coastline of India it weakened gradually  because of the continuous  effects of wind break off and dry air from the mainland. On 20th May morning the cyclone made its landfall near Sunderbans in West Bengal with high speed winds. The coastal areas of Odisha and Kolkata , Hooghly, Madnipur, 24 Parganas and Howrah in West Bengal were severely affected by this cyclone. Bangladesh too faced massive destruction due to the cyclone.
